MANOR HOUSE

WINETOURISM

Built in the nineteenth century, the house was restored in 1923 by the Swiss architect, Ernesto Korrodi, and was the Soares Franco family residence until 1974. With its particularly beautiful façade and gardens, it has always been associated with the image of José Maria da Fonseca.

The visit to the Museum House begins with a brief explanation of the company’s history, followed by a tour of the ancient wine cellars: Adega da Mata and Adega dos Teares Novos, where wines such as Periquita mature, and Adega dos Teares Velhos, where the oldest Setúbal Muscatels (Muscats or Moscateis) rest, some of which are true relics over 100 years old. At the end of the tour, the visitor can sample some of the wines produced by José Maria da Fonseca.

When you visit our Wine Shop, you’ll be spoilt for choice for that special occasion and you can complement the wine with regional gourmet products.

TOURS

When you visit the house where José Maria da Fonseca was founded in 1834, you’ll get to know the essence of a Wine Family with almost 200 years of history, where the values passed down from generation to generation are kept alive while allowing the company to project itself into the 21st century.

You can also enjoy an unparalleled wine and gastronomic tasting experience and find out about the history, flavors and essence of the wine produced here for almost two centuries.

The José Maria da Fonseca Wine Tourism was distinguished in the 2013 W Awards (awarded by the wine critic Aníbal Coutinho) as Best Wine Tourism without Accommodation for 2012.

WINE TASTING

And because a visit to a wine producer with the size and history of José Maria da Fonseca would never be complete without a genuine tasting of the best of what has been produced here for almost two centuries, at the end of the tour, each visitor will have the chance to get to know better some of the wines that make José Maria da Fonseca the prestigious institution it is today, through a very special tasting. So don't miss the opportunity to live a truly sensory experience that is certain to linger in your memory.

EVENTS

We offer a wide range of options in our Wine Tourism, including many services that can be enjoyed if you book in advance. Start with a visit to the Museum House and live an experience of wine and food tasting where the history, tastes and the essence of wine are the order of the day. If you wish to end the visit with a more elaborate tasting, choose the 3, 4, 5 and 6 wine options.

Another suggestion is the WINE-GASTRONOMIC experiences, Sabores da Terra I (Flavors of the Land I) and Sabores da Terra II (Flavors of the Land II), where you can choose from various wines, Red, White and Muscats, always suitably accompanied by regional food products.

On a more entrepreneurial side, a unique and memorable touch can be added to your most important moments, through lunches, dinners and company meetings, where José Maria da Fonseca takes charge of the decoration, catering, wines and other alcoholic beverages served. Events that include meals can be held at the Cave da Bassaqueira, Adega dos Teares Novos or in the Wine Shop, depending on the number of participants, and meetings can take place in the Meeting Room.

These are just some ideas to help you make the most of a closer relationship with the wine world of José Maria da Fonseca.

WINE SHOP

And if you should feel an inexplicable need to take some of our delights home with you once you’ve tasted them, don't fight it! In our shop inside the Museum House, you can purchase your favorite wines and extend the bond that will unite us for many years to come.
